I am at stock, but I guess my car is going to be dropped. . . but it shall be functional!
![]() 11/11/2013 at 16:48 |

Dropped. No more. Sometimes less for practical vehicles that have to negotiate rough roads daily.
Anything more than dropped gets into intentional mechanical malfunction, and thus has questionable rationale.

"dropped" is a good look

off-road ???

My car is lowered, so I think I'm here on the chart. Really depends on the car though

I'd say flush right now. It's about as low as I can get it and still get in my driveway without boards.
![]() 11/11/2013 at 16:49 |

I love the look of Flush, but with less camber. If the back was like the front it would be perfect.

Stock

Dropped, with a hint of tuck in the rear.

I may go from stock to dropped on the SHO, but for now I'm stock.

I've owned cars that range from stock to flush...
-'88 Supra - Stock
-'94 VR-4 - Stock height, but perfectly flush wheel fitment
-'10 Evo - Stock
-'92 GTI - Dropped ~1.5" over standard GTI height (which was lower than normal Golfs anyway) with really sunk wheel fitment
-'13 BRZ - Stock (and will remain so besides winter wheels/tires)

I guess Stock?

Is that in fact your Raptor?
![]() 11/11/2013 at 17:01 |

Stock. Because DD.
![]() 11/11/2013 at 17:03 |

Not on there, but tucked in the front, and mexiflush in the rear. The mexiflush will make way for dropped/tucked later this week, though.

Stock

Mine's stock but I could see doing coils (for track use, like JRZ triple adjustable or some such), so I think "dropped" maxes out my tolerance. All of the others pretty much make me cringe.
![]() 11/11/2013 at 17:06 |

80 % on the dropped side of stock/dropped; I consider a big drop too much of a compromise already.

That's a picture I found online.
Full disclosure : I don't have a Raptor, but I learned how to drive in one. My dad has a Raptor and I know just about everything there is to know about them. It's a scary thing to learn how to drive in.

So it's your dad I need to suck up to, not you. Got it
![]() 11/11/2013 at 17:12 |

Yeah but he doesn't post rally pictures on Oppo all the time. If you still want those, keep sucking.
![]() 11/11/2013 at 17:17 |

Dropped. But it depends on the car. Some look fine stock.
![]() 11/11/2013 at 17:21 |

I can make my own rally pictures ;)
![]() 11/11/2013 at 17:24 |

Stock. Because car manufacturers spend millions of dollars and thousands of man hours trying to find a good ride/handling balance.

You have good taste in cars.

Mine will be this tough some day. The wife has given the go-ahead to get a mild lift so we can fit some 33''s. Talked her into limited slip differentials this weekend as well. I tried for air lockers but she didn't understand them.
![]() 11/11/2013 at 17:29 |

My GTI is stock ride height. My '69 Firebird is lowered 3" over factory. No pics of it on the ground yet though.

I shouldn't have said shit. You would have never known. But I have never lied to you or anyone on oppo.

GOD DAMNIT THANK YOU! I almost barf every time a see a STI or FRS/BRZ or any performance car for that matter lowered or stanced. Sure go ahead and do it on your base model Golf or Civic, but if you stance an S2k or an M3 you deserve to be driven far out into the wilderness covered in Raw meat and tied to a tree
![]() 11/11/2013 at 17:39 |
|
You asked? Just kidding. But yeah, don't worry about the lift with 33"s, they fit just fine
No rubbing, even on the bumpstops and at full lock. Still getting a mild lift though (tjm 2 inch) since my coils are toast.
![]() 11/11/2013 at 17:43 |

Should've clarified. Mine (my Dakota) will blah blah blah etc.
I'll need a 2'' to get the 33''s to clear without any fear of The Rub.

This is what we're going for:
Except dark green and a steel bumper / winch combo so I can pull my friend's Tacoma out of the mud
![]() 11/11/2013 at 17:58 |

heh. I can imagine that being kinda difficult, especially when it's time to parallel park.
I'm 31 years old and i still get kind of uncomfortable when I have to drive something big.
![]() 11/11/2013 at 17:59 |

I don't disagree with stock, but sometimes governmental bumper-height regulations, and other issues, and bean-counter warranty mentality and other things factor in, in addition to engineering.
A little bit of drop doesn't always hurt, but if it is done badly, it can. Well closer to stock than flush, stanced, or hella-nuts-whatever.
![]() 11/11/2013 at 18:17 |
|
For sure, stock is the very definition of compromised. Though I'd argue that most of the compromises are the ones you'd want to make anyway.
I'm not against making a car more the way you want it, I just think that a large percentage of cars with suspension work are actually worse off in most situations when all is said and done. But there are certainly exceptions. If, for instance, you use a car mainly on the track, a good adjustable setup totally makes sense, because fuck the ride quality, that's not what the car is for.
![]() 11/11/2013 at 18:51 |

Dropped. The stock ride height on my car looks like someone put the wrong springs on it. I really don't need 4" of gap.

It's big, hard to see out of, hard to see where the thing begins and ends, wider than a H1 and very expensive. On the street, I don't really like it. I wished it was a clapped out beater. Did I mention how expensive they are?
Guess what the second thing I drove on the street was? A RV towing a trailer full of dirbikes down a country road. First time with a cop directly behind me. He is crazy for trusting me with these things. On the upside, I now know some very creative death threats.

Your dad sounds cool and not just because he has a Raptor.
Most of my early driving struggles stemmed from my first car being turbocharged. But not like modern "I can't even feel any turbo log" turbocharging. No, it was 80's big lag turbocharging at it's best. When i first got the car (88' Celica all-trac) I'd push down the gas and accelerate out into traffic. Then a second and a half later, the turbo would wake up. Without moving my foot, the car would suddenly act like i just floored it. Exciting, but scary. Especially if you weren't paying attention while backing up.

I'd be dropped. I have no plans of going any lower any time soon. IMO, Springs/coilovers > bags
![]() 11/11/2013 at 19:38 |
|
He is.
That sounds like fun. The Raptor has a touchy throttle when you first hit it and nothing up top. So you tap the gas and it surges forward, and you punch it and nothing happens (5.4L). It will suck gas as fast as you can fill the tank though.

Stock until I can put some money aside to buy lowering springs and blocks :)
My step-dads MINI is also stock :)
